Here is a pattern we see all the time: someone skips checkups for a few years because nothing hurts, then shows up with a toothache that needs a root canal or extraction. Almost every time, a simple filling years earlier would have prevented it. Regular checkups are the cheapest, easiest dental care there is, because they stop small problems from becoming big ones.
What actually happens at a checkup
A dental exam and cleaning has two parts. First, the cleaning: our hygienist gently removes tartar buildup you cannot remove at home, polishes your teeth, and checks your gums. Then the exam: Dr. Avetisyan checks every tooth for early decay, looks at your gums, screens for oral cancer, and reviews x-rays when they are due. The whole visit usually takes under an hour, and most patients find it genuinely relaxing.
What we catch early
Cavities the size of a pinhead. Early gum disease that is still reversible. Cracked fillings before they break. These are all five-minute fixes when caught early and expensive headaches when caught late. Checkups also let us track changes over time, which is how we spot slow-moving problems no single visit would reveal.
How often should you come?
For most people, every six months is the sweet spot. Some patients with gum disease or higher risk need to come more often, and we will tell you honestly what you need, never more. We make it easy for the whole family with our family dentistry approach, including back-to-back appointments, and we take extra time with young patients through our children's dentistry visits so kids actually look forward to coming back.
Nervous about dental visits? You are not alone
A huge number of our patients arrived anxious, many after years away from the dentist. Some had a bad experience long ago. Others just felt embarrassed about the state of their teeth. Here is what we want you to know: we have seen it all, we judge none of it, and you will never get a lecture from us.
Tell us you are nervous, and we will slow down, explain everything before we do it, and check in with you throughout. You are always in control. You can raise a hand and we stop, no questions asked. Most anxious patients tell us afterward that they wish they had come in years sooner. If that is you, consider this your sign.
Your turn: when was your last checkup? If you cannot remember, that is your answer. Book online in under a minute, and give yourself one less thing to worry about.
